At Sterling Van Lines, we believe in giving back.
We recently donated books, DVDs and toys to the Philippine Literacy Project. We are proud to be involved in a great cause that helps students from very low-income families such as farmers, fishermen, and laborers.
Books were sent to the University of the Philippines in The Visayas, where the goal is to add a minimum of 5,000 volumes of library and technology material. The DVD collection will allow students to watch movies since there are no theatres or local malls where they live. The toys are used by youth volunteers for community outreach and storytelling in the barrios.
All the materials will be used at a public school where funding is scarce and the need for clothes and shoes, books and toys are truly appreciated. It is amazing how the gift of education can help those less fortunate kids to get out of poverty, learn to read and potentially have some success. The students usually don’t have the means or resources to attend college. The donations are but a small contribution that can give them a chance at a better life.

This is a public school so funds are scarce- the students are highly intelligent but do not have the resources/ means to attend college since they usually come from very low income families (i.e. farmers, laborers. Fishermen, Domestic helpers, etc.) The things we take for granted like books, toys, clothes, shoes, are those that they cherish and are most appreciated. The gift of reading, learning and education are ways for kids to succeed in life and get out of poverty.
So, thank you for giving them a chance at life. From our family to yours, we pray for continued abundance so that you can always share your blessings with others. We have attached pictures of the books we will send momentarily. The stuffed animals are used for community outreach and storytelling by youth volunteers in the barrios.
